To coincide with National Vegetarian Week, six vegetarian eateries for non-meat eaters or just somewhere meat-free to be different once in a while…

Les Amandines, Diss, Norfolk
Long established licensed restaurant, also serving vegan and gluten free diets. Sit outside and eat al fresco on warmer days.

Café at Holland and Barrett, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Go the wholefood hog at the country’s most well known health foods store, where nestled at the rear is a delightful vegetarian stop-off.

Pulse Café-Bar
, Norwich, Norfolk
Funky, vibrant, chic, buzzy, far from the sandals, beards and lentils some would have associated with vegetarians back in the 70’s. Vegetarianism has come of age and great to see a stylish modern destination like this one. Part of the four strong Norwich based Raffles restaurants group.

Red Lion
, Great Bricett, Suffolk
Rather unusually and making headlines, this charming rural olde worlde hostelry west of Needham Market has gone veggie under new owner Jan Wise. Her interesting menu would tempt all bar the staunchest carnivore, perhaps roast figs in filo stuffed with goats cheese, Mexican chimichangas or porcini risotto fritters.

Rainbow Café, Cambridge, Cambs.
For over two decades, this stalwart has led the veggie scene in East Anglia and throngs with loyal regulars. The Vegetarian Society’s only approved totally vegetarian restaurant in the city, a few years ago it won their Best Vegetarian Café award.
