November is a month unmistakably heading for winter, but we can look forward to some fantastic warming meals and accompanying wines. If, in common with most of the population, much of the month is taken up by selecting thoughtful gifts for loved ones in preparation for Christmas, spare some time to enjoy some of the seasonal foods from our beautiful East Anglian countryside washed down with a fine wine.

There’s nothing more satisfying than setting off for a walk and stumbling across a hedgerow of ripe blackberries. Who can resist the gorgeous colour of those ripe, bursting berries? I defy anyone to walk past without sampling a few of the choicest morsels plucked from the topmost branches. By August and September, we are treated to a number of different berries, a few you can forage, but most from your local greengrocer or farmers’ market unless you are particularly green fingered.

The barbecue season is well and truly here, and apart from the smell of freshly cut grass, the aroma of roasted meats and charcoal both mark the arrival of the British summer. All that is needed is a selection of sun kissed wines which will complement or challenge the strong flavours of mixed grills and peppery salads and of course, perfect for sipping outside.
