    Norfolk's hidden gem

    Norfolk's hidden gem

For the Broad House, half a mile might be a
hundred miles such its world away from the
bustling main street of Wroxham and Hoveton.
Next to the driveway of the Norfolk Broads Yacht
Club, the rural approach belies its location and the
24 acres of wooded parkland and river frontage it sits
    in.

    Pizza–de–résistance

    Pizza–de–résistance

Like all Mediterranean countries, Italy’s foodies know how to graze in style. For them to eat properly rarely entails fine dining and meals universally materialise without grandeur or pretension. They are confident in their culinary skill and know that the best seasonal ingredients need little gilding to be consumed at their best.

    Cooking from the heart

    Cooking from the heart

Glyn Williams indulges over a long lazy continental lunch at Hitchcock’s in Sudbury. Cinzia Ghignoni is a rare breed of chef, impassioned about real slow food and driven by the flavours and textures of what’s fresh and in season. Few restaurants however much they advertise using local produce, actually let the food do the talking.

    Country house comes of age

    Country house comes of age

Driving through a leafy glade to Kesgrave Hall on the outskirts of Ipswich and catching a glimpse of this imposing Georgian mansion in all its glory, nestling in a dell surrounded by manicured lawns and towering leafy trees, one could be forgiven that it calls for ‘best bib‘n’tucker’.

    Essex pride

    Essex pride

Stalwart of the county pub scene, season went to lunch at the Cricketers in Clavering on the North-West Essex/Herts borders with owners Trevor and Sally Oliver. Essex born and bred, the licensed trade runs in Trevor’s veins, having grown up with his father being a landlord. Two other brothers also have their own pubs, including the old family hostelry, the well known Plough and Sail at Paglesham on the river Roach, celebrating 40 years in the Oliver family.

    Drop anchor in the Fens

    Drop anchor in the Fens

Glyn Williams seeks out one of Cambridgeshire’s hidden riverside gems. As remote spots go, one wouldn’t have thought the Anchor at Sutton Gault, just seven miles or so drive from the city of Ely or less as the crow flies would be hard to find. But as Paddy Burt the Daily Telegraph’s esteemed travel writer pointed out, ‘Sutton Gault in Fen country is a village so tiny they forgot to put it on the map’.

Where the jet set comes down to earth...

Glyn Williams meets celebrated chef Anton Edelmann at his new restaurant Anton’s close to Stansted Airport in North Essex. One would have thought after a long very successful career as Executive Chef de Cuisine at the famous Savoy Hotel on the Strand in charge of a 75 strong brigade of chefs that Anton would want to take it easy.
